The Revista de avance had a section entitled “Guidelines,” which included short informative articles or comments on matters or events related to the focus of the journal. In this section, the editors informed the reader of changes, clarification, and comments on previous articles, or matters of interest, in the form of brief articles. In this issue, of particular importance was the short article published about the homage to Dr. Antonio Sánchez Bustamante, a major public figure in Cuban international politics during the period of the Republic. He was a lawyer, judge, and author of the “Código de Derecho Internacional Privado,” also known as the “Código Bustamante.” That code was written to govern the legal aspects of foreign trade between the countries that would sign the treaty. It was not well received by the United States, which was one of the countries that refused to sign. This was because the code guaranteed primacy to national rights and laws in relationships and disputes with foreign countries as a way of protecting Cuban sovereignty and assets from the economic and territorial domination sought by the United States over the island.
