In this text, Venezuelan critic Roberto Guevara (1932–1998) presents some aspects key to understanding the poetics of Teresa Gabaldón (b. 1950), active since the end of the 1970s when a group of young artists participated in what is known as the drawing boom in Venezuela. Guevara emphasizes the fact that she focuses her artistic interest on flowers, with her drawing playing a fundamental role and serving as a source of pictorial expression. With this effort, Gabaldón suggests a new approach to landscape within the visual arts.
The critic considers the exhibition held at the Sala Alternativa Galería de Arte (Caracas 1998), wherein the artist exhibited a group of paintings featuring floral motifs of profound emotional weight. It should be noted that Gabaldón was appointed a professor of painting at the Instituto Universitarios de Estudios Superiores de Artes Plásticas Armando Reverón (now known as UNEARTE) even as she was pursuing her art.
