The portfolio Tres estrofas de amor para soprano was a project that involved Lorenzo Homar (images), Puerto Rican poet Tomás Blanco (verses), Catalan musician and founder of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Puerto Rico [Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico], Pablo Casals (music), and Luigi Marrozzini, of the Galería Colibrí. The printing took more than a year, with José Rosa as assistant printer and Enrique Salgado as a general assistant. In an interview with Puerto Rican curator Mari Carmen Ramírez, Homar states that in order to obtain the desired quality and textures, they executed print runs of 25 to 29 prints. In this portfolio, Homar achieved “complete mastery of this technique, based on its expressive possibilities,” according to the art historian, Teresa Tió.Lorenzo Homar (San Juan, 1913-2004) organized in 1957 the Taller de Gráfica [Graphics Workshop] at the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, which he directed until his resignation in 1973. Some of the foremost artists of Puerto Rican art studied printmaking techniques in this workshop. Homar inspired in them dedication and love for the art, for, as he once said: “There is no vocation without discipline, and without discipline there can be no freedom in art, or elsewhere.” Homar was one of the organizers of the First Bienal de San Juan del Grabado Latinoamericano held in 1970. He developed the technique of silkscreen and offered numerous workshops in and outside Puerto Rico.
