The catalogue for the Exposição de uma casa modernista was written by the architect Gregori Warchavchik, creator of this radical project. Although it was controversial in the conservative milieu of the period, the project was fairly significant in the process of Brazilian architecture achieving modernity in 1930. In the exhibition, modern architecture was presented along with artistic and literary elements, with an undeniable nod to graphic design. In fact, the very catalogue cover was meant to show the link between design and the architecture proposed for that period.

In principle, the key approach to the exhibition, called Exposição de uma casa modernista, consisted of a model residence with interior decoration by the Russian architect Gregori Warchavchik that was opened to the public. The model house was located in the Pacaembú neighborhood in São Paulo, at rua Itápolis 119, and the exhibition was held from March 26 to April 15, 1930.

An interesting fact worth mentioning is that the original project was rejected by the Oficina de Proyectos Municipal due to the Minimalist simplicity of the façade. The architect had to submit the design again, this time with much Art Deco detail, in order to obtain approval for the project. In order to maintain the original project in the face of official pressure, the architect had to explain that it was impossible to implement the revised project due to budget limitations, which  was why it was left “unfinished.”

The catalogue offers literary and visual artwork by a list of noteworthy writers and artists of the period, including Anita Malfatti, Victor Brecheret (sculptor), Celso Antonio, Cícero Dias, Emiliano Di Cavalcanti, Esther Bessel, Antonio Gomide, Jenny Segall, John Graz, Lasar Segall, Menotti del Pichia (poet), Oswaldo Goeldi (printmaker), Tarsila do Amaral, Gregori Warchavchik (architect), Antônio de Alcântara Machado, Oswald de Andrade, Mário de Andrade, and Ronald de Carvalho.
