The Argentine art critic, Raquel Tibol, interviewed three painters, asking them for their opinions about the organization of the first Bienal Interamericana de Pintura y Grabado [Inter-American Biennial of Painting and Printmaking]. In order to have a more complete perspective, she chose a participating artist, Jorge González Camarena, an artist invited at the last minute, Cordelia Urueta and a young artist who was not included, Alberto Gironella. González Camarena reproached the collector, Carrillo Gil, for criticizing the State. To González Camarena, the Biennial was necessary in México, since it would provide the opportunity to become acquainted with painting from all over the Americas. For his part, Gironella was convinced that the Bienal would not be continued as an event, although he would, in fact, like to participate in the next Biennial. He demanded an explanation of who had proposed the Biennial, since to him, the whole thing appeared to be an artistic conspiracy. To Cordelia Urueta, the event had turned into a series of contradictions, since her name was not included on the first list she received, but then, less than a month from the opening, she had received an official invitation to the event.
