Julián Althabe (1911–75) was a visual artist who had his first individual exhibition in 1952. Sofía Althabe (1945) is a visual artisit, who also worked as chancellor of the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón. The Asociación Arte Nuevo [New Art Association]was formed because of the work of Carmelo Arden Quin and comprised non-figurative artists, joined together with the goal of disseminating the work of this tendency through publications, exhibitions, and talks. This group held salons that took place— with the support of Aldo Pellegrini—without the intervention of admission juries. The exhibition described in the prologue was held at the Galería Van Riel between December 10 and 22, 1958. The artists participating in the painting area were: Hans Aebi, Manuel Avedikian, Fernando Baraglia, Elío Barberi, Rodolfo Bardi, Ramón Baudes Gorlero, Paulina Berlatzky, Jaime Davidovich, Francisca de los Reyes, Simona Ertan, Rosa Espagnol, Pedro Gaeta, Orlando Gianferro, César Gioia, Berta Guido, Jaime Jaimes, Lidia Juárez, Kenneth Kemble, Nélida Licenziato, Eduardo Mac Entyre, Sameer Makarius, Federico Martino, Roberto Matiello, Fernando Maza, Luis Molinari Flores, Esther Pilone, Rogelio Polesello, Mario Pucciarelli, Jaime Rodríguez, Carlos Silva, Benjamín Solari Parravicini, Osvaldo Svanascini, Elena Tarasido and José Guevara. The sculpture area featured: Julián Althabe, César Fioravanti, Magda Frank, Julio Gero, Orlando Gianferro, Víctor Marchese, and Manuel Fernández Teijeiro. In turn, printmaking included: Angel Cavaliere, Albino Fernández, and Mabel Rubli. In photography: Juan E. Bechis, Sameer Makarius, Julio Maubecin, and Rodolfo Ostermann.
