Aldo Pellegrini (Rosario, 1903–Buenos Aires, 1973) was an outstanding poet, playwright, essayist, and art critic in the cultural scene of Argentina. Linked from the first moment with the development of Surrealism, he directed several editorial projects. Pellegrini also supported and helped spread the different aspects of Abstract art, launching several groups, such as Artistas Modernos de la Argentina [Modern Artists of Argentina] and the Asociación Arte Nuevo [New Art Association]. In this text, Pellegrini introduces the biographical notes and the writings of Julián Althabe, Carmelo Arden Quin, Martín Blaszko, Eduardo Jonquières, Juan Mele, Wolf Roitman, Oswald Stimm, Gregorio Vardánega, and Virgilio Villalba. You can consult the following writings: Blaszko’s “Las tendencias artísticas actuales y sus realizaciones plásticas” [The Current Artistic Tendencies and Their Plastic Realizations] (document no. 742569); Mele’s “La conquista de la invención concreta dirigida hacia un…” [The Conquest of Concrete Invention Directed Toward a…] (document no. 742729); Vardánega’s “El orden y equilibrio constructivos inducen a un equilibrio” [Constructive Order and Equilibriums Induce an Equilibrium] (document no. 742769); and Arden Quin’s “En la escultura madí, además del valor plástico derivado…” [In the Madi Sculpture, Besides the Derived Plastic Value…] (document no. 742564). This source has been selected, not only because it shows Pellegrini’s critical opinion about plastic renovation, but also because it documents his propinquity to the artists of the Asociación Arte Nuevo, a group formed with the guidance of Arden Quin, which enjoyed Pellegrini’s support.
