The Exposición de Pintores Modernos [Modern Painters Exhibition] (Buenos Aires, June, 1926), developed on site at the Asociación de Amigos del Arte [Friends of the Arts Association] in Buenos Aires, was organized to complement Filippo Tommaso Marinetti’s (1876–1944) conference on avant-garde art. He also lectured in La Plata, Rosario, and Córdoba on issues involving diverse themes related to futurism: architecture, theater, music, poetry, and sports.
Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (1876–1944), the leader and founder of Italian Futurism, arrived in Argentina in the month of June, 1926, after visiting Brazil (Río de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Santos), where his visit had just had a great impact on the country’s cultural and artistic milieu.
The artists that participated in this exhibition were: Norah Borges, Emilio Pettoruti, A. Xul Solar, Piero Illari, as well as the architects Alberto Horacio Prebisch and Ernesto Vautier. In this sense, the document is quite important for pointing out who were the key figures taken into account by the artistic avant-garde in Buenos Aires. It is also a register for the exhibition and Marinetti’s conference. On the other hand, it is one of the very few documents that exist recording at the time his conferences.
