The nine issues of nueva visión. revista de cultura visual. Artes, arquitectura, diseño industrial, tipografía [New Vision: A magazine devoted to visual culture. Art, architecture, industrial design, typography]—conceived as a space in which to redefine and disseminate concrete art—were published from December 1951 through 1957, under the direction of Tomás Maldonado (b. 1922). The editorial board, which changed over time, included: Carlos Méndez Mosquera (b. 1930), Juan M. Borthagaray, Francisco Bullrich, Jorge Goldemberg, Jorge Grisetti, Rafael E. J. Iglesia, Mauricio Kagel, Guido Kasper, Alfredo Hlito, Horacio Baliero (the architect), and Edgar Bayley (1919–90). A note in the first issue attributes the typographical composition to Alfredo Hlito. A note in the second and third issues states: “nv, new vision, the magazine, is the property of new vision publishers (currently being established).” Though Tomás Maldonado was the editor, the ninth issue listed him as the founder. Alfredo Hlito (1923-93) was as Argentine artist and a member of the Asociación Arte Concreto — Invención and the Grupo de Artistas Modernos de la Argentina [Modern Artists Group of Argentina]. He lived in Mexico City from 1963 to 1973, and died in Buenos Aires. This document has been chosen because it includes Hlito’s discussion of the various ways in which different disciplines addressed the question of space.
