Ever since it was founded, the CAYC (Centro de Arte y Comunicación), helmed by the cultural promoter, artist, and businessman Jorge Glusberg, was intended as an interdisciplinary space where an experimental art movement could flourish. The establishment of collaborative networks connecting local and international artists and critics played an important role in this process. The exhibitions shone a light on these exchanges, in which overviews of trends or individual artists provided an introduction to the innovations of international contemporary art and made Argentine and Latin American artists better known on the global scene.
Using a range of institutional strategies such as art exhibitions and meetings to discuss Latin American art, the CAYC managed to position regional art on the international stage. Beginning in 1974, this project focused its greatest efforts on promoting initiatives to a contemporary circuit consisting of new spaces and cultural centers that were emerging in Europe. The exhibition Arte de Sistemas en Latinoamérica was presented in various European cities from 1974 to 1976, showcasing an overview of recent regional works that expressed the idea of systems art.
As part of the campaign to promote the new edition of this exhibition—in this iteration at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebaek, Denmark (January–February 1976)—this document includes a list of participating artists and their works. This information had previously been published in the museum’s magazine, Louisiana-revy, under the title “UNG LATINAMERIKANSK KUNST fra CAYC” (Young Latin American Art from the CAYC).
This newsletter includes a review signed by Hugo Verlomme (b. 1952) that had been published in the Paris newspaper Le Quotidien in February 1975. In his review, Verlomme describes the exhibition as an opportunity to see art trends being explored by the Latin American avant-garde. He mentions some of the works on display, including those by the Argentinean visual and Conceptual artist Víctor Grippo.
