This poem by historian and art critic Flávio [Lúcio Lichtenfelds] Motta (n. 1923) describes Marcello Nitsche’s show Alegres Saudações [Happy Greetings], organized in 1981 by the Galeria de Arte São Paulo. Marcello Nitsche is a painter, sculptor, and draftsman. By the end of the 1960s he was producing paintings and objects based on images taken from comic books, thereby approaching the Pop art trend. He liked to experiment ---an example of which is A Bolha [The Blister], an inflatable sculpture accompanied by film and environmental actions. In the 1980s he began using three-dimensional brushstrokes and writing using clippings and various objects. He played an important role in teaching and arts education.
Flávio Motta was a professor at the FAU-USP (Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo) during the 1970s, where he advocated for the inclusion of Aesthetics in the institution’s curriculum. In 1967, along with artist Nelson Leirner, he proposed the Bandeiras na Praça event, which had some impact after its works were seized by the repressive forces of the military dictatorship.
