The book Nosotros: un trabajo sobre los artistas antioqueños is a research work by the artist Félix Ángel (b. 1949), who became interested in 1976 in the artists of his generation and his city. It is the only study published in Colombia on the art of Medellín in the early 1970s. Moreover, in 2008, he published an extended edition of the book Nosotros, writing about artists from the same city of Antioquia during the 1970s. He entitled it Nosotros, vosotros, ellos.
In addition to Ángel himself, the artists from Antioquia included in the book are: Rodrigo Callejas (b. 1937), John Castles (b. 1946), Óscar Jaramillo (b. 1947), Álvaro Marín (b. 1946), Dora Ramírez (b. 1923), Juan Camilo Uribe (1945–2005), Francisco Valderrama (1928?89), Aníbal Vallejo (b. 1945), and Marta Elena Vélez (b. 1939).
In May 1975, the critic and art curator Eduardo Serrano Rueda (b. 1939) organized the exhibition Once antioqueños upon request of the artists. Regarding the exhibition, Serrano stated that art did get created in Medellín in spite of the obstacles, however haphazard it may be in terms of art techniques and trends. The book Nosotros was published after the discontinuation of the Bienal Iberoamericana de Pintura de Coltejer (1968, 1970, and 1972). That biennial had been a highly important venue for artists to gain exposure to the latest art trends.
Félix Ángel has a degree in architecture from the Universidad Nacional of Colombia and has been living in the United States (Washington, DC) since 1977. In Colombia, he worked as an artist, researcher, and art critic; in 1975, he published the novel Te quiero mucho, poquito, nada with drawings and collages by the author. Between 1977 and 1989, he was assistant to the Cuban art critic José Gómez Sicre (1922–91) at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de América Latina, a branch of the OAS, Organization of American States, until he became the curator of temporary exhibitions. Félix Ángel was the director of the Cultural Center of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) for many years.
